Jade Goody Strip Poker

Let's just call this....."Mediawatch"
Case #1:
Jade Goody dies.
When the British Prime Minister puts out a press release saying how he is "deeply saddened" by the death of a reality show contestant who whored herself out to the media and made an absolute dick of herself at almost every opportunity, you know there is something wrong with the world.

I did a big rant but then felt bad - so I'll let Twenty speak for me.

Basically, the media are absolute bastards for covering this event in the way that they have - but I suppose it's fitting given the way she lived the last 7 years of her life. I found her entertaining, I watched her during her finer moments (losing endless rounds of strip poker live on national television; The Oxo-Cube Row) but I could never understand how she became as popular as she did. For her death to get a mention on New Zealand state broadcaster news is ridiculous; she only ever appeared on televsion in the northern hemisphere, AND there was so many other worthier items to report.

Yes, it's sad she got cervical cancer and died. Regardless of the how she died, it's insulting to those who are out there truly making a difference in this world to imply that she somehow did.

Case #2:
Ireland win the 6 nations for the first time in 61 years....and the Irish press literally lose their minds:
"If the Golden Generation can cast off the shackles of more than half a century of Grand Slam famine then just maybe the Irish people can summon the determination of will to tackle our economic ills."

What. In. The. Hell. After reading that sentence I vowed not to read another article about the match because it was just going to contain more bollocks like that. It's like saying "If NZ can ride out this economic storm then maybe we'll win the next World Cup." Ummm, NO. Sporting victory and the state of the economy are not mutually exclusive, dickwads. If that was the case NZ would be more of a backwater than it's already perceived to be.

I was going to do a whole rant about how terrified I am about going to London and trying to find work, but after chatting with my sister I'm not feeling as bad. I love my sister - she's so good at making me see sense in things.
