So anyways today I watched the news and then read a few articles online and off. What struck me was the optimistic manner in which our lives run. Yes, optimistic. Well OK, you might not be completely life is whips and nipple clamps happy but you've got to be at least a closet optimist. I'm more of the type to have a dead optimist in my closet. That's where our similarities start to diverge. I mean sure, I would like things to turn out great. I just don't think that they ever will. Its not because I am bitter without my own reasoning. Not at all. Life has been a sick and twisted bitch with far more pointless stress then one would ever hope for. I just try not to break out the streamers and funny hats for my own pity party. Nope, I'll just try to learn from my mistakes or at least hope the ADD allows me to forget they ever happened. When that doesn't work I try to push the other shit out by cramming in more thoughts. I figure there can't really be an infinite storage capacity in my head so eventually the bad shit will get pushed out in order to make room for thoughts about happier irrational things like monkeys playing poker with naked female monkeys in provocative positions on the cards. Naturally at least one monkey will have to be cheating.

So with the mental monkey imagery out of the way allow me to ask you just when does your optimism run out? At what point do you see the news, see how far down the wrong tracks we've gone, see the crushing amount of national debt and demand that somebody, anybody, please stop this shit! If you do then please go blow up your underwear. It might not kill you but at least it might kill your future of reproduction. I want to know what you really thought "life" might allow you to have. Did you forget what it was? If you remember it then have you taken a look around and wondered if it was even possible anymore? Not just possible for you but for any future generation? Still think so? Let's explore that possibility then.

I won't go being all judgmental about the War on Terrorism. I will simply point out our other super successful wars like the War on Poverty, War on Drugs and so on. We've totally won those and in an amazingly short period of time. Good thing we didn't just spend money on treating symptoms and instead went right after the cause itself. Hell I will even go out on a limb and predict that in 30yrs if we aren't bankrupt we will still be in this War on Terrorism with no end in sight. Fuck, we'll be in Afghanistan for eternity unless another nation steps in to take our place.

Hey the new health care cost increase predictions are in. They say we will have another 10% increase in our health care costs this year. That is without the government getting involved with their lack of price caps, little to no fraud investigations and so on. Before you say it allow me to remind you that Social Security is going to be the largest portion of our national spending. Do you really think that the Obama health care program will be any different? Nobody is that blinded by political ideology. Well I would hope not at least.

I will just vaguely mention our eroding value system, personal responsibility and national infrastructure. All of which are quickly going to hell. There's no need to go into greater detail about those things given how painfully obvious they are on a daily basis. Whether its the dumb ass teenager who can't ring up a simply transaction when his register/computer goes down because it requires math to the pot hole ridden road system and the sagging rusted bridges. People can demand that they get fixed but they don't want to be bothered with the financial or moral obligation that it entails. Parents are too busy with working too many hours to actually pay attention to their kids. The educational system is expected to educate and instill morals into children. The teachers are expected to work miracles and spit shine a shit system. Our national structure has turned into an upside down pyramid with administration being the top heavy juggernaut that bleeds away resources long before it ever trickles down to any real action.

So I applaud your inner hidden optimism. I guess King Curtis got it right when he said everyone should just be fat and happy. If you don't know who King Curtis is then you missed a wonderfully ignorant fat southern kid with an affinity for cookies. Hell maybe that's how you all got to be so damn optimistic inside. America is a nation known for obesity. We are also known for our rather widespread use of prescription medication for depression. Hell I guess you really are fat and happy. Holy shit King Curtis was onto something! Its not that you don't see how fucked up things have become. You are just so full from Zoloft and cookies that you couldn't give a fuck any less! I guess its a good thing that Obama health care is coming. Might as well make sure everyone nation wide gets their pills and cookies.

Personally, I think something has to fucking give. Really, there's no way that we can actually continue at this pace or in this direction. I'm not talking about empty campaign promises or lateral change. I am talking about pulling the emergency brake and bringing shit to a sudden halt. Let's be honest, in order to take stock in ones situation you have to actually stop and look around. An uninformed or misinformed decision is no better then the political ideology based ones that we have tried for the last half a century. Hell get some economists with no self interests in there to help you take stock in things. We have to figure out what we can afford before we go deciding on what we are going to do or what we intend to do. I typically do that when I plan out my budget at least. Tends to help with preventing bounced checks and all. You never know, if we get this train back on track you might not need the cookies and pills in order to cope. Not to mention we might not have as much poverty if people and our nation lives within its means. Hell the illegal drug use might even see a decline if people aren't trying to escape their shit lives.

So, yeah, just saying something has to change. I could be wrong but even if you simply consider the future financial burden then I have a very valid point laced in there somewhere. You can only tread water for so long. Maybe its time to swim to shore before we drift any farther out to sea. Then again maybe you are hoping a Chinese cargo liner will pick you up. Might as well ride back in on the same ship that's bringing you all of your consumable items for the new year.
